About Ourselves and Our Store
Aloha My name is Jen, owner of Big Island Kine. My husband Douglas and I have always had a lot of things in common. We were both raised in cold climates (Colorado and Michigan), come from military backgrounds, earned college degrees and developed careers in medical imaging. I'm a registered radiographer and Doug is an imaging engineer. Another thing we have in common is a deep love for Hawaii, so when the opportunity arose to move to the Big Island some years ago, we jumped at the chance. Eventually, I bought a little store in the heart of Kailua-Kona, an idyllic town on the west coast of the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii.
My store has been operating in Kona for over 25 years and has strong ties to the community. We sell uniquely Hawaiian items, resort wear, local arts and crafts, etc. as well as fine jewelry, collectibles and (of course) exotic leather goods made of eel skin, stingray, snakeskin, buffalo, lizard, shark and ostrich. We absolutely love our little town, it's people and culture and the amazing tropical environment. It's a wonderful place to raise our three kids and I'm sure we'll end up retiring in Hawaii as well. If you ever get the opportunity to visit the Big Island, please stop by our store (right across from the pier) just to say hi and talk story, as the locals say.
